AI applied to the detection of colon cancer in Venezuela

The Anticancer Society of Venezuela (SAV), a cancer prevention clinic, has the only video endoscope that improves the detection of colon cancer with the incorporation of AI

The director of the Anticancer Society of Venezuela, Cono Gumina, indicated that the clinic is the only center in the country that has an AI video endoscope to improve the detection of colon cancer.

Gumina highlighted in an interview for the radio outlet Unión Radio: “Artificial intelligence helps us find 30% of the injuries that occasionally go unnoticed in current studies.”

With this technological advance, specialists have a better chance of detecting, in a few minutes, lesions that may go unnoticed in their early stages.

During the interview, the director of the SAV stressed the importance for male patients of being screened for colon cancer once they are 40 years old.

In the case of women, cervical and breast cancer, as well as lung and digestive cancers are those with the highest incidence. Regarding men, the main statistics point to digestive, prostate and lung cancer.
