Merkel asks for good relations with the United States

The German chancellor urged Europe in general to keep positive communication with the Donald Trump government and those involved in the US leadership

German Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed the interest of Germany and Europe in maintaining good relations with the United States.

“On the contrary, the need of the United States to remain with Europe has diminished. That is why relations start from our interest. And since it is our interest, then naturally we must also contribute to it,” said the head of the German Executive.

According to the chancellor, for US President Donald Trump, the assumption that there is a multilateral world “is no longer so obvious.”

In Merkel’s opinion, it has been observed for some time that the role of the former superpower may not correspond at all to the image that the United States has of itself.

“Europe is no longer at the center of world events, and this is increasingly evident”, said Merkel. According to the president, since the end of the Cold War the European continent lost its former vanguard position.
