Mark Zuckerberg surpassed Bill Gates’ wealth

Zuckerberg knocked out Bill Gates, placing himself as the fifth richest person in the world

Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, according to the latest update of the Forbes list, ousted Bill Gates, placing himself as the fifth richest person in the world.

Since January 1st, 2024, seven of the ten richest people in the world have seen their fortunes increase compared to the previous month. In this context, the CEO of Meta surpassed by an astonishing 6 billion dollars the wealth of Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft.

Mark Zuckerberg, without hesitation, has reached a remarkable net worth of 125.3 billion dollars, which ensures him fifth place in the world ranking of wealth. This rise is significant, considering that it ranked seventh in December last year.

Meanwhile, tycoon Bill Gates is now in sixth place on the list, with a net worth of $119.6 billion.

According to Forbes figures, Gates first entered the list of billionaires in 1987 and held the title of the richest person in the world between 1995 and 2017, with the exception of 2008 and from 2010 to 2013.

Although Gates’ fortune increased by $2 billion in December 2023, his position among the world’s wealthiest remained stable at sixth place until January 1.

Against a backdrop of legal challenges and Facebook privacy scandals, as well as declining advertising revenue due to the pandemic, Mark Zuckerberg has experienced an impressive financial rise.

Despite adversity, Meta’s shares have surprised the market as they experience a remarkable boost in 2023, rising from $125 per share to a high of $342 in November. Investors in the social media giant enjoyed a 155% increase in share value, backed by Meta’s expansion into the virtual and augmented reality sectors, as well as its continued dominance of social platforms such as Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger.

It is important to note that Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and founder of SpaceX, remains the richest person in the world, with a fortune that amounts to 251 billion dollars.
