Crypto exchange house hacked with malware

Lazarus organization managed to steal confidential information from the firm dedicated to the purchase and sale of electronic assets

An organization of “cyber pirates” known as Lazarus could have attacked a cryptocurrency exchange house using malware.

The objective of this group was to steal confidential information, as outlined by the cybersecurity company Kaspersky Lab.

Lazarus, of North Korean origin, usually attacks Fintech banks and companies. The virus they used was identified as Fallchill, which arrived at the exchange through an email that was later downloaded by an employee.

“The application showed no signs of malicious behavior and seemed genuine. Kaspersky Lab technicians concluded that the group of hackers created a false version of this application to be able to later introduce their explosive charge,” the report detailed.

The director of GReAT APAC in Kaspersky Lab, Vitaly Kamluk, pointed out that although the cyber attack was successful, there were no financial losses.

The Kaspersky Lab report, meanwhile, concludes with the recommendation of not to automatically rely on third-party software, while alerting users of non-Windows platforms.
