Justin Trudeau takes office as Prime Minister of Canada

Anita Anand was appointed as Minister of Defense by the new government and former journalist Marci Ien, as Minister of Women, Gender Equality and Youth

Justin Trudeau, who won the general election on September 20 by winning 160 of the 338 seats in the House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament, took office for the second mandate in an act held in Ottawa, capital of Canada.

During the event, the prime minister announced the new government team, with only 10 ministers from Trudeau’s previous cabinet remaining in office.

One of the most prominent appointments was the appointment of a woman as Defense Minister, a responsibility that fell to Anita Anand, who had been serving as Minister of Services and Public Contracts and was leading all the efforts made by the Canadian government to acquire and distribute vaccines against Covid-19.

Another important appointment is that of Mélanie Joly, who will assume the responsibility of directing external relations as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, which is among the most prominent portfolios of the Government.

Marci Ien, a black former journalist, has been named Minister of Women, Gender Equality and Youth.” She is another woman who happens to occupy a high position in the new Trudeau government.

Anita Anand and Mélanie Joly, are replacing men in front of the Defense and Foreign Affairs portfolios.
