Hackers move around $ 26 million in bitcoins to Bitfinex

The criminal action is related to a group of transactions in the bitcoin network carried out last month

A group of as yet unknown hackers mobilized more than $ 26 million in stolen funds traded in the virtual currency bitcoin to the Bitfinex platform. The movement of these funds comes a month after the bitcoin network has been the victim of a group of transactions associated with crimes.

The information was released through the Twitter account @Whale_alert, where it is specified that the theft was carried out in a total of seven transactions from the linked addresses, of which the majority transferred between $ 4.1 million and $ 4 , 8 million in BTC funds, accompanied by much smaller ones.

The criminal action is related to the events that occurred on August 2, 2016 when a group of hackers, taking advantage of the vulnerability presented by the Bitfinex platform wallets, proceeded to steal around 120,000 BTC which belonged to users of the exchange, which correspond to about $ 72 million.

At the moment, Bitfinex published a statement offering a reward “to anyone who connects us with the hackers responsible for the unauthorized transfer of almost 120,000 bitcoins from the exchange in August 2016. As part of the same initiative, Bitfinex also offers a reward to the hackers themselves for the return of stolen funds.”

The move allowed the exchange to successfully hold on despite associated consequences. However, the managers and the work team continued to apply strategies together with the authorities to find those responsible and recover the respective funds.
