BCV urged banks to stop services and payment operations in foreign currency

The banking entity asked to suspend this activity to the universal and microfinance banks that are offering such payments

The Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) issued a statement on Friday, October 9, in which it establishes the suspension of banking products or services that facilitate payments for goods and services in foreign currency in the country.

In the document, the entity urges the banking sector to immediately cease any product or service that universal and microfinance banks are offering to their clients and users, which involves the payment of goods and services in foreign currency in Venezuela, charged to the accounts in foreign currency in the national financial system.

“These banking institutions are informed that the Central Bank of Venezuela has not authorized any company to operate as a non-bank provider of payment services in foreign currency.

In this sense, the companies that are offering such services do so in contravention of the provisions of articles 2, 14 and 23 of Resolution No. 18-12-01 of 12/04/2018, published in the Official Gazette of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela N ° 41,547 of 12/17/2018, containing the “General Standards for Payment Systems and Non-Bank Suppliers of Payment Services Operating in the Country”, is detailed in the brief published on the BCV official web.
