Google launches a new security key

The world's largest search engine launched the USB Type-C connector called Titan, compatible with Android, ChromeOS, among others

Google announced the launch of new Titan security key with USB Type-C connector, compatible with Android, Chrome OS, macOS and Windows devices, although for the moment it is available only in the United States.

The new security key with USB Type-C connector consists of a chip with a hardware security element that includes a ‘firmware’ developed by Google “to verify the integrity of the key”, as pointed out by the company in a statement . These are the same security chip and ‘firmware’ that they used in their other existing security key models.

Titan USB-C security key was manufactured together with Yubico, a company with which they have been collaborating since 2012 and with which they carried out the universal double factor authentication standard known as FIDO (U2F), the first open identification standard which was resistant to phishing attacks.

Security keys are systems created especially for users who need greater protection against cyber attacks, such as network administrators, executives, politicians or activists. Thus, these keys provide them with the “strongest form” of the two-factor authentication system, according to the company.

In addition, they can be used on any website where they are supported, such as Google personal or work accounts, 1Password, Coinbase, Dropbox, Facebook, GitHub, Salesforce, Stripe and Twitter, among others. Titan security keys are complemented by the Google Advanced Protection Program (APP).
