Gazprom Neft continues oil project in Venezuela

The Russian subsidiary of the gas giant Gazprom confirmed that it does not intend to abandon the project that has already begun in the Junín 6 block of the Orinoco oil belt in the South American country

The CEO of the Russian company Alexander Diúkov said that the project is currently in an exploration stage, which does not require any investment by the company.

Once the exploratory period is over, the consortium will decide and issue opinions on profitability and capital reimbursement if necessary. The executive said that it is not until the end of the year that the company must make the final investment decision.

For its part, Gazprom Neft plans to increase hydrocarbon production between 2% and 3% per year until 2030, counting on the market to grow at a rate of 1% or 1.5% per year.

It is appropriate to mention that in Venezuela Petromiranda is the company that is operating the Junín 6 block. About 60% of the shares of said subsidiary are controlled by the state oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa).
