Facebook could include facial recognition to verify identity

According to several experts, the social network is testing this functionality to incorporate it as soon as possible

Facebook is experimenting with a new facial recognition tool to identify users who access from the mobile app of its homonymous social network, with which users have to make a video in which all the angles of their face appear.

As reported by reverse engineering expert Jane Manchun Wong, known for discovering functions under test on social networks, the company is testing a new verification technique based on user facial recognition.

This system asks users to make a selfie video within a round frame that appears on the screen of the smart computer, so that it collects a complete image and from all angles of the user’s face. According to Wong, Facebook says this video will not be seen by anyone and will be deleted after 30 days.

The security mechanism is not necessarily linked to facial recognition technology, as the researcher indicates, but uses the client’s face identification, which he provides with a video from which the company will extract the data for verification, to ensure it is a “real person.”

The researcher has also mentioned another form of identity verification, which asks the users to take a picture of their identity card in order to make sure that the account belongs to them.
