According to the parent company, this service was originally aimed at content creators and online personalities, “but now Meta also hopes to attract other users with a cheaper subscription and different features that it has already begun testing in some regions.

The monthly fee will offer improvements to Stories. In this regard, “subscribers to the new service will be able to view other people’s stories anonymously, without the author knowing they have been viewed.”

Additionally, it will be possible to see how many people have reviewed one of their stories, extend its duration by 24 hours, or feature them once a week so they appear at the top of their followers’ Stories feeds.

Paid users will have the option to create unlimited audience lists for their Stories posts.

The company led by Mark Zuckerberg has indicated other new features, such as the inclusion of a search function in the view list that will make it easier to determine if a specific person has viewed your story, and “an animated Super Like to react to other people’s posts.”

Regarding pricing, Meta specified that in Mexico it costs 39 pesos. (about 2 euros per month), in Japan it’s 319 yen (approximately 1.75 euros), and in the Philippines it’s 65 Philippine pesos (around one euro).

The platform indicated this Tuesday that the accounts of users under 18 will become private. The objective is to reinforce the privacy of users and avoid negative consequences.

Among the recent announcements by Instagram is also the elimination of notifications for minors from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. “to allow for better rest in this age group.”

Likewise, the social network will add “more supervision tools for adults, such as a function that allows parents to see the accounts with which their children have recently exchanged messages.”

In this regard, they have clarified that users under 16 years of age “will only be able to change these settings with the permission of their parents.”

Parents will have access to the topics their children view most frequently, although they will not be able to see their messages.

Teenagers will see restricted settings for sensitive content. However, since Instagram has no way to verify a user’s age so far, a teenager could lie about this information and bypass the controls.

This has been leaked by company contacts to Bloomberg, where there is also talk that it will offer a new plan and content.

The changes apparently relate to audiobooks, which Spotify “added for free last year in some countries, although not Spain.” Audiobooks represent a high cost for the platform, which would justify the increase in price.

Regarding the cost after the increase, it has been speculated that the Swedish platform “is going to increase the price of all its plans between 1 and 2 euros per month, depending on the plan.” The new, lower-cost plan will not include audiobooks.

According to data provided to Bloomberg, the price increase will take place this April in the United Kingdom, Australia, Pakistan, and two other countries. It will spread to the rest of the world throughout the year.

The Supreme Court will study the laws approved in these two states aimed at restricting social networks “from taking measures against political disinformation”, as the 2024 elections approach.

The laws have sparked controversy from American conservatives and the Supreme Court, who argue that the legal instruments require “special treatment and the jurisprudence on freedom of expression was not necessarily adequate to address this issue.”

The debate focuses on the freedom that platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram have in terms of content, according to the Computer & Communications Industry Association and NetChoice.

Social networks have taken the place of traditional media, allowing citizens to express themselves, launch protests, and share information. However, “that doesn’t necessarily make them a public forum regulated by the government,” according to Professor Roy S. Gutterman of the Tully Center for Free Expression at Syracuse University.

Representatives of the platforms Facebook and Google have requested that the laws passed in Texas and Florida be repealed, arguing that they conflict with the First Amendment.

At the same time, there are disagreements between conservative and ultra-conservative groups with technology companies, which presumably want to maintain control of social networks.

President Joe Biden, for his part, asked the Supreme Court to take charge of the case, referring to the First Amendment, which guarantees the right to freedom of expression.

The platform, owned by ByteDance, commented that this agreement “will expand the level of partnership, collaboration and innovation between the two companies” and that “it will deepen the engagement with the audience of TikTok music fans.”

As the social network said in the announcement statement, with this association with the record label, artists and composers will have access to new ways of working with the brand’s partners, as well as new monetization, merchandising and ticketing functions, digital goods and services.

This deal also includes TikTok Music, the premium subscription streaming service, which launched in early July in Indonesia and Brazil and expects to roll out to other regions soon.

In addition, the agreement “also paves the way for Warner Music Group artists and songwriters to take advantage of unique promotional capabilities” and engage with the user community of TikTok’s video app CapCut.

In a statement, Sarandos stated that “Netflix is delighted to confirm that we will invest $2.5 billion in Korea, including the creation of Korean series, movies, and non-scripted content over the next four years.”

South Korea has become a global cultural powerhouse in recent years, fueled in part by the success of the Oscar-winning film “Parasite” and the Netflix series “The Squid Game.” Company data indicates that around 60 % of Netflix users watched at least one Korean production on the platform in 2022.

Sarandos expressed his “great confidence” in South Korea’s creative industry, citing the recent successes of the series “The Glory” and the reality show “Physical Ability: 100” as examples of the quality of Korean content. “It’s amazing that the love for Korean shows has led to widespread interest in Korea thanks to the captivating stories of Korean creators. Their stories are now at the heart of the world’s cultural spirit,” he added.

Netflix had previously announced its intention to expand its production in Korea, but without giving details about the investment plan. South Korean President Yoon described the meeting with Sarandos as “very significant” and assured that Netflix’s investment will be a “great opportunity for the Korean content industry, for creators and for Netflix.”

The controversy generated by the violent act caused Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to make the decision to permanently block Trump’s accounts on these social networks. But the businessman was not discouraged and launched Truth, his own social network, then available on the Apple App Store.

Since its launch, it could not be downloaded, since Google had declared that the platform did not comply with some of its policies. However, the technology giant recently included it in its Play Store, available for Android, arguing that it now “complies with the firm’s developer guidelines, which, among other things, require applications to effectively moderate user-generated content. and that they eliminate messages that incite violence.”

Trump achieved the inclusion of his Truth social network by implementing an effective system for moderating the content generated on it. Hence, it can currently be downloaded from the Play Store by those interested.

The social network explained that if you select the “Show more” option, it will temporarily increase the ranking score of that post and others like it. Selecting the “Show Less” option will temporarily lower your ranking score.

These options will be displayed periodically. Soon, users will be able to access the buttons at any time by tapping the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the post.

A Facebook spokesperson told TechCrunch that the selections you make influence the posts you see for 60 days. The company says it has chosen this time frame because its research has shown that people want these preferences to last at least a few weeks, and also because Facebook wants to keep up with people’s changing preferences.

TikTok, like the cinema, allows you to discover and share stories through videos. The social network “is a window to the world that brings together trends and breaks down barriers, creates a new form of expression and inspires its users, offering more solutions to entertain its community and unleash its creativity”.

The director of the Festival, José Luis Ribordino, considers the agreement to be very important and positive because it makes it easier to specify the contents of the event through new technologies and digital languages. “The profession of the festival is to take care of all the spectators, and TikTok is a good ally in this mission.”

A Festival for innovation

It is the first time that the San Sebastián Festival is linked to a mobile phone platform, which demonstrates a challenge for innovation, new forms of inspiration and entertainment for the cultural event.

TikTok’s alliance with the most important film festival in Spain and the world strengthens the social network’s commitment to promoting internal and external culture and entertainment.

The alliance makes the social network a relevant partner for festivals, in addition to offering its users the opportunity to access a wide variety of “exclusive content and unique festival moments, covering the platform’s characteristic language, to be discovered alongside with the various creators.

The followers of the TikTok platform will also be able to observe the events that occur behind the scenes, such as the departure and arrival of the stars and guests of the Festival, hold meetings with the artists in an unusual way. They will also be able to participate and experience the magic of the San Sebastián Festival through the official TikTok account of the festival @sansebastianfes.

The CEO of Meta was in charge of announcing the changes through his official account on the Instagram social network. Zuckerberg shared a story where he “shows how the new vertical full-screen layout works.” During the presentation, he noted: “We want to make it easier to discover content and connect with friends.”

An Instagram spokesperson explained that the test will allow testing “some changes in the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen“, which will incorporate shortcuts that will allow new publications and access to messages.

Full screen content

When accessing the content on the Instagram social network, it opens in “full screen”, separating it from the other videos in the feed and with margins in the color of the screen theme. The format is very similar to those found on reels.

According to Zuckerberg, photos continue to be very important for Instagram, and he stressed that the company is working hard on different formats that facilitate “improving the way they are displayed in a full screen feed.”

Although further details about the “new functionality” are unknown, it will be implemented for some users who will participate, in the next few days, in the screen tests and the company hopes to have a pleasant feedback on the experience.

Last May, the social network carried out its first full-screen feed test, but some users expressed their disagreement with the way the content was displayed.
