Accounts for minors under 18 on Instagram will be private
The social network Instagram announced the creation of the “teenage account” that will give parents greater control over their interaction on the platform
Instagram will give parents greater control over the content that minors under 18 have access to with the launch of the teen account.
The platform indicated this Tuesday that the accounts of users under 18 will become private. The objective is to reinforce the privacy of users and avoid negative consequences.
Among the recent announcements by Instagram is also the elimination of notifications for minors from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. “to allow for better rest in this age group.”
Likewise, the social network will add “more supervision tools for adults, such as a function that allows parents to see the accounts with which their children have recently exchanged messages.”
In this regard, they have clarified that users under 16 years of age “will only be able to change these settings with the permission of their parents.”
Parents will have access to the topics their children view most frequently, although they will not be able to see their messages.
Teenagers will see restricted settings for sensitive content. However, since Instagram has no way to verify a user’s age so far, a teenager could lie about this information and bypass the controls.
