England announces process for restarting activities

The Prime Minister assured that this will be carried out in five phases, and that it is not contemplated to do so in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a five-phase system for the resumption of activity that will apply only in England, as Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will maintain the toughest confinement.

“The Covid Alert System will be managed by a new Joint Biosafety Center. The higher the level, the restrictions will be tighter and stricter. There will be five alert levels,” Johnson explained in a televised speech.

Thus, Level One would mean that the disease is no longer present in the United Kingdom, while Level Five would be the worst scenario: “the situation we would have if the National Health System had been surpassed”, he indicated.

During the confinement the United Kingdom was at Level Four “and thanks to the sacrifice of all of us we are now in a position to initiate the transition to Level Three”, Johnson said.

“Although we have made progress and have met some of the conditions given, in no way did we meet all five and that is why it is simply not the time to end the confinement this week”, he argued.

However, some restrictions will be lifted. “We have said that you should work from home if you could and you should only go to work if there is no alternative. We have to stress that anyone who cannot work from home, for example in construction or industry, should be actively summoned to go to work”, he stressed.
