ECB will update the design of euro banknotes

The European Central Bank closes public participation on August 31 with proposals for the new design of euro banknotes that will enter circulation in 2026

This August 31 closes the period open to the public by the European Central Bank to make proposals on the reasons that could include the euro banknotes that will enter circulation in 2026.

The ECB has collected thousands of proposals across Europe, with high participation from citizens of Germany, France and Italy. The results of the survey will be analyzed to choose the theme of the next banknotes before the end of 2024.

According to the information published in the international media, the financial entity will maintain the current denominations; that is to say: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200. It is also probable that the colors and the size will not be changed, which does not affect the costs for adapting the banknote treatment machines.

However, the change will be in the motifs that appear on the paper money. The ECB will seek those proposals that best describe or identify the European Union.
