Distributed accounting could reach the United Kingdom

The HMCTS held a meeting to discuss the benefits that this technology could bring in terms of storing digital evidence

After a recent meeting, Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Service (HMCTS) indicated that the possibility of starting to use  distributed accounting technology (DLT) with the objective of implementing it in digital evidence was discussed.

This approach comes within the framework of the judicial reforms that the HMCTS wants to carry out together with the Open Innovation Team. The idea is to be able to simplify processes, specifically in digital evidence.

Dr. Sadek Fedous, member of Technology Policy and Researcher at Imperial College, presented his considerations regarding his research related to the use of the DLT in private and public administration, its relative safety, scalability and cost profiles.

This process, in the words of Fedous, can provide justice with a “chronological record of activities” that indicate the way in which digital evidence has been created, accessed, modified and by which entity”.

Also, the head of Digital Architecture and Cyber Security at HMCTS, Balaji Anbil, stressed that the use of the DLT will ensure that no aspect is breached in the evidence and that it does not suffer any loss in the process.
