Minecraft will have neither blockchain nor NFT

The developer of the video game, Mojang, confirmed that it has no intention of allowing the use of this technology, and of the NFT

Mojang confirmed that it will not implement or allow the integration of blockchain technology or non-fungible tokens (NFT) in the Minecraft video game in order to keep the user experience safe and inclusive.

The development studio wants Minecraft to be “a community where everyone has access to the same content”, which they protect with the rules contained in the platform’s guidelines for use.

It is currently preparing an update to include the blockchain and NFT, but with the aim of prohibiting its integration into Minecraft as well as its use for the creation of digital collections “associated with in-game content”, such as worlds, skins and mods.

This is because, as he explains in a statement, NFTs “can create models of scarcity and exclusion that conflict with the guidelines and spirit” of the video game. He also remembers that both tokens and this technology have been associated with speculative practices.

Mojang assured that from the study they do not plan to implement this technology, but they do recognize that they will “pay close attention” to its evolution to “determine if it will allow safer experiences or other practical and inclusive applications in games.”
