Asian candidate receives political donation in cryptocurrencies

Hsiao Hsin-Chen from Taiwan reported that a donation in bitcoins equivalent to US $ 325 came to his account

The candidate for the Taipei City Hall, Hsiao Hsin-Chen, allegedly received a donation for his bitcoin campaign. This is considered the first time cryptocurrencies are used for a political issue.

In August of this year, the candidate announced that he was prepared to receive donations in cryptocurrencies. The political campaign of Hsiao is based on promoting technological innovation in order to leave unfair financial practices in the past.

The use of bitcoin, and cryptocurrencies in general, would be of great help to achieve these goals, according to Hsiao. It is presumed that the donation was of 10 thousand Taiwanese dollars.

Hsiao explained that “accepting bitcoin as a political donation is more symbolic than it seems.”

Taiwan aims to become a global center of innovation and technology in the coming decades and recognizes the importance that cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology will have in that process.
