Peru would advance its presidential elections

The president of the National Election Jury, Jorge Luis Salas Arenas indicated that he is evaluating to advance the elections in Peru

The president of the National Election Jury (JNE) of Peru, Jorge Luis Salas Arenas, announced that the body is prepared for an eventual advancement of the general elections to December 2023, after Congress was willing to discuss the issue.

The president of the JNE added that it will be necessary to sacrifice “the primary elections that are an essential necessity of the process.”

In Salas’s opinion, the entity is in a position to carry out and complete the elections that replace those who currently hold the highest magistracies in the country due to this social emergency.

It is necessary to remember that Congress approved to reconsider the project to advance the general elections to 2023, as requested by the Peruvian Executive, after a previous vote in which this initiative was rejected. This same Tuesday he will have to vote definitively if they advance the elections.
