The US midterm elections will be held on November 3. Citizens will vote to renew all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and one-third of the 100 Senate seats.
Tensions are running high among members of Congress, who are analyzing hypothetical scenarios to determine the best course of action. President Donald Trump doesn’t seem overly concerned, though he remains vigilant.
The general elections on November 3rd are crucial in determining the course of the country’s democracy. Voters hold the power to elect members of Congress more aligned with the president’s agenda, or the opposite.
Simply put, “if Congress gains seats from the same party as the president, it benefits the president. The opposite is also true: if the president’s party loses seats in Congress, it hinders the implementation of their political program. When Congress and the president belong to the same party, the president can usually pass laws more easily than when faced with obstacles from an opposition party.”
In any case, it is important to remember that the president governs in conjunction with the other two branches of government. Therefore, the November 3rd vote will decide who will make up the legislative branch and represent the interests of the state, rather than the entire country.
