Rio de Janeiro will be the new venue for the Web Summit

The city of Rio de Janeiro was selected as the venue for the first edition of the Web Summit in South America to be held in May 2023

Starting in 2023, Rio de Janeiro was selected as the new venue for the Web Summit, the largest technology event in the world, according to information provided by the event organizers and the city council.

The mayor’s office of the town announced through a statement that the metropolis was chosen to hold “the first edition of the event in South America”, which will take place from May 1 to 4, 2023.

The Web Summit is an annual technology conference that was founded in 2009 by Paddy Cosgrave, David Kelly and Daire Hickey and has been held in Lisbon since 2016.

The conference brings together different business leaders and large technology companies from around the world, and its purpose is to boost “the local economy and the technology ecosystem“.

Rio de Janeiro hosts international events

Eduardo Paes, Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, highlighted that “the city is returning to the front row of the world stage. Rio already has a tradition of hosting major international events, and we are very proud to have been chosen as the first city in Latin America to host an event of this magnitude.”

The 2023 Web Summit is expected to receive more than 10,000 participants from around the world, who will be received in a protected space of approximately 87,000 square meters.

Brazil has approximately 21 companies valued in the market at more than 1,000 million dollars, it is also the only Latin American country that is part of the list of the top 10 global markets of “unicorns”.
