IDB sponsors public purchases in Chile with blockchain

ChileCompra launched a pilot project to test blockchain technology in the public sector

The blockchain technology opens a range of possibilities to the public sales sector in Chile, through the pilot project of the ChileCompra platform, which is governed by a single, transparent, efficient and non-discriminatory regulatory framework.

The project, which is sponsored by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), seeks to position ChileCompra as a platform for decentralization in transactions, based on transparency.

The platform would act as a virtual notary in order to guarantee that the documents in the purchase orders of the public sector have not been altered by particular interests.

During the launch of the project, the director of Digital Government, Andrés Bustamante, highlighted the need to protect sensitive data of customers through a technology that provides confidence.

The encryption of the data and the decentralization of the accounting books that characterize blockchain technology offer an effective solution to this concern.
