The US bans the use of Chinese apps AliPay and WeChat Pay

The US president issued a letter addressed to Chinese payment applications

President Donald Trump has banned American citizens from using Chinese payment applications through a letter issued on Tuesday.

The order echoes previous concerns about data collection by the Chinese Communist Party: “The continued activity of the People’s Republic of China and the CCP to steal or obtain data from American individuals makes it clear that there is an intention to use the collection. of Big Data to Advance China’s National and Economic Security Agenda”.

The applications banned in the United States are: AliPay, CamScanner, QQ Wallet, SHAREit, Tencent QQ, VMate, WeChat Pay and WPS Office and the order is expected to take effect in 45 days.

The move is because recently the US national security apparatus has raised concerns about Chinese payment systems, particularly a CBDC with a database accessible by the CCP.

While the situation between the two countries is obviously tense, both Facebook and Ripple witnessed serious investigations by US regulators concerned about their operations when they made those arguments, somewhat deflating the effect of their patriotism.
