New euro bills will start circulating soon

The new bills with the signature of Christine Lagarde stamped on them are supposed to be launched next week

The first euro banknotes signed by the current president of the European Central Bank (ECB), Christine Lagarde, will begin to circulate next week, as the issuing institute announced this Friday in a statement.

It will be the first time that euro banknotes will bear the signature of a woman, after showing the headings of Mario Draghi, Jean Claude Trichet and Wim Duisenberg, Lagarde’s predecessors in the ECB presidency.

The first banknotes to bear Lagarde’s signature will be those of five and ten euros, as explained by the ECB on its official Twitter account.

The rest of the series’ tickets will begin to circulate in the coming weeks and months. The authority has stressed that all the tickets signed by the previous presidents will continue to have legal validity in all the countries that make up the euro zone.
