Twitter finds a vulnerability that allows hacking of accounts
The social network found a "bug" in Android that gave access to hackers so they could reach the personal information of users
Twitter discovered a security problem in its Android version that allowed attackers to access personal information from their users’ accounts and even take control of them, and recommended users update the application to the latest version to avoid the risks.
The recently solved ‘microblogging’ platform vulnerability exposed the accounts to attacks by inserting malicious code into restricted storage areas of the Twitter application for Android.
The attackers who took control of the accounts could then access non-public information stored on the platform and even send direct messages and publish tweets from the victims’ accounts.
The platform said it is not aware that the vulnerability has been used in any attack, but at the same time it states that they cannot be “completely safe”, as explained in a statement in their privacy blog.
Therefore, the social network proceeded to send notifications directly to the accounts that could have been exposed to the security problem through their app or by email, with different instructions to keep them protected depending on the version of the app.
The platform. on the other hand. has always recommended Twitter users for Android to update the application to the latest available version. The security issue has not affected Twitter for iOS.
