Samsung and LG on the way to 6G telecommunications

The 5G technology has not yet been fully deployed and yet Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have begun to investigate 6G in a global race to lead the next generation of telecommunications

According to sources related to the consortium, Samsung opened a new research center with the purpose of developing technology for 6G mobile networks. The research and development department incorporated a research team to accelerate solutions and standardization in this level.

Obviously, the new technology is part of the firm’s long-term business plan. Samsung launched its first 5G smartphone in April and now joins LG, which last January joined the Korea Advanced Science and Technology Institute (Kaist) to open a 6G research center.

In this way, Korean companies have started to work in the race for 6G, a technology in which the United States and China have also taken their first steps. It is worth remembering that 6G will take several years to be available since the 5G is still in the deployment phase.

For his part, Fernando Suárez, vice president of the General Council of Official Associations of Computer Engineering, said that companies try with these initiatives to lay the foundations in a technology, in which there is a “commercial war for being the first and giving patents” in a market where Huawei “takes the biggest portion of the cake”.

Undoubtedly, the advantages of 6G with respect to 5G will materialize in a higher speed, a shorter latency time, greater capacity to transmit data and lower consumption.
