China launched satellite that will provide Internet worldwide

The Asian nation entered a field where it will have tough competitors, like the United States

On December 22, China launched a satellite as a first step to provide a global Internet service for countries that do not have access to reliable networks.

Hongyun-1, ‘rainbow cloud’, took off from the China Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, this is only the first of 156 satellites that the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (Casic) plans to launch.” Casic expectes that in the year 2022 there will be a constellation of satellites that improve the quality of the Internet in the most remote areas of the country and the last step would be to reach the most developed countries, said the official statement.

The satellite is about 620 miles high. Although this seems to be a great initiative, many have shown concern in view of the fact that China is one of the countries that most applies tracking in Internet browsing.

The competition in the satellite market will not be easy for China since the United States is also on the ground with SpaceX, a project that seems to be more ambitious.

SpaceX also wants to put 12,000 satellites in orbit between 335 and 346 kilometers. It already has the approval to launch seven thousand of them and so far two have been released as proof. It is believed that by the end of this year the service, that is expected to be profitable in 2020, will begin to be provided.
