The United States will auction confiscated bitcoins

The United States Marshals Corps, known as the US Marshals, has announced the auction of 4.3 million dollars in bitcoin

In the United States, approximately 660 bitcoins have been lost in criminal cases of civil and administrative nature. That is why the United States Marshals Corps, known as the US Marshals, will auction $ 4.3 million in bitcoin. The auction is scheduled to begin on November 5th.

To participate, bidders will have to verify their identification at the agency and then deposit $ 200,000 before October 31, which is the deadline for registration. Once the offers have been made, they will not be able to modify them or see those of other bidders.

The agency said that among the assets to be auctioned are bitcoins lost in very recent cases, such as the US government’s demands against bitcoin traders Theresa Tetley and Thomas Mario Costanzo, both incarcerated for money laundering.

As announced, the event will consist of two parts with 6 blocks of 100 bitcoins each and a block with 60 bitcoins.

It is not the first time that the US Marshals has auctioned confiscated cryptocurrencies in previous criminal cases related to the cryptography sector. Between January and March the organization sold 2,100 and 3,600 bitcoins, around 50 million dollars.
