Head of the Bank of England seeks Brexit success

The Ministry of Finance of the United Kingdom reported that Mark Carney, head of the Bank of England, agreed to extend his mandate in the institution until January 2020.

According to the letter written by the finance minister, Philip Hammond, the governor of the Bank decided to stay in order to achieve good agreements regarding Brexit, which is scheduled to be completed by 2019.

“I am willing to do whatever it takes to promote a successful Brexit and an efficient transition at the Bank of England and I can confirm that I will be honored to extend my term to January 2020“, Carney said.

Carney, who is Canadian, held the highest Bank of England position in July 2013 with a five-year term. However, it was extended one more year after the decision of Great Britain to leave the EU, taken in June 2016.

When he finishes his term in front of the British institution, the Canadian citizen has intentions to enter the world of the politics of Canada, although “in due time”.
