The bitcoin cryptocurrency is considered one of the worst payment methods on the dark web, although it is the most used and accepted.
The reason is simple given that people use this network to carry on illegal business, the cryptocurrency has a traceability that could make them reach funds.
And there are plenty of reasons to fear this. It should be noted that a couple of weeks ago the Department of Justice of the United States (DOJ) suspended a website dedicated to the sale of child pornography.
The website carried out transactions for $ 353,000 in bitcoin from 2015 to 2018, which were traceable thanks to the new research techniques employed by the IRS and the National Security Investigation teams focused on blockchain technology.
According to this data, the market for the dark web that uses the main cryptocurrency of the ecosystem is highly compromising, particularly if they are sites involved in illegal activities, since undercover researchers increasingly use more bitcoin as payment methods on these websites to track transactions and find the responsibles behind the crime thanks to the pseudo-anonymity of the leading cryptocurrency.
