The data, offered by the consulting firm Canalys in its report on the global smartphone market during the second quarter of the year, show that the Chinese company is at number two in the ranking for the first time, with a year-on-year growth of 83 %.

Behind is Apple, with a year-on-year growth of 1 %, while Samsung leads the ranking with 19 % of the market and a growth of 15 %.

Xiaomi has gone from “challenger to holder” in the global shipping market, as indicated by Canalys, which identifies the cause of the transformation carried out by the Chinese brand in its business model through initiatives such as the consolidation of channel partners. or more diligent management in the open market.

The analysis firm notes that the new goal of the Chinese brand is to displace Samsung to become the world’s largest supplier. In this sense, the founder, president and CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, highlighted in a letter to his employees that after five years of overcoming in extremely difficult conditions, the capabilities of Xiaomi devices have been significantly improved, paving the way for reach the premium segment and increase its market share.

The manager added that Xiaomi will continually strengthen its core capabilities and consolidate its place as the second largest smartphone brand.
