Russia to supply free grain to African countries

The Kremlin announced its willingness to provide grain to African countries, free of charge, to face the suspension of exports from Ukraine

Russia is willing to supply grains to African countries for free as an emergency measure, following the suspension of grain exports from Ukraine.

The Kremlin indicated this at a press conference, through the spokesman for the Russian presidency, Dmitri Peskov.

The official, however, clarified that they will be small amounts “because the poorest countries in Africa received less cereal than all” under the grain agreement.

According to Peskov, Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, “plans to address this issue with his African colleagues during the next Russia-Africa summit to be held at the end of July in Saint Petersburg.”

It is important to clarify that the grain agreement was suspended on Monday, July 17. However, the Kremlin said on the same day that “as soon as the Russian part” of the agreements is fulfilled, Russia will “immediately re-implement this agreement.”
