Western Digital launches ArmorLock, its new encrypted security platform

Through this new platform, the German company seeks to redefine how information should be protected, as indicated in a statement

Western Digital announced the launch of its new ArmorLock platform, developed to help companies in different sectors, from financial to government to media and entertainment, to “meet the storage security demands of their critical data.” The new platform eliminates the need to prioritize between quick access to data and privacy by allowing both at the same time.

ArmorLock also features easy firmware updates directly from the app, third-party audited and open source cryptography with side channel attack mitigation, and passwordless authentication technology. It also includes “zero-knowledge public key management that helps protect your privacy even if the ArmorLock device is lost or stolen.”

The company noted that the first product to take advantage of this technology is the new ArmorLock NVMe SSD encrypted G-Technology, designed to offer “a high-performance security storage solution” to creators in the media and entertainment industries.

On the other hand, they have indicated that the NVMe encrypted ArmorLock SSD offers read and write speeds of up to 1,000 MB per second through a 10 Gps SuperSpeed ​​USB port.

With the ArmorLock app, users can unlock the device from their phone, using face recognition, fingerprint, or phone password. From the application, for both mobile and desktop, users can also configure and manage multiple units and multiple users to control who has access.

In addition, ArmorLock allows you to authorize access and use to remote users before sending the disks through messaging or email.

The device features high-grade AEX-XTS 256-bit hardware encryption, secure erase and one-step file system reformatting, and last known disk location tracking, as well as IP67 dust and water resistance, protection against falls of up to three meters and crush resistance of up to 450 kilograms.

The ArmorLock encrypted NVMe SSD is available now through the Western Digital store, as well as in electronic stores in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Europe for a price of 599.99 euros with a single 2TB configuration.
