Use of renewable energy for cryptocurrencies has grown

A study carried out by the Bitcoin Mining Council determined that the consumption of this type of energy for cryptocurrencies increased by almost 60 %

The Bitcoin Mining Council (BMC) published a report showing that the use of sustainable energy for mining this cryptocurrency has grown by almost 60 %.

Some 44 digital asset mining companies make life in this group, who also claim to be the representatives of 50 % of the global bitcoin network.

The BMC estimates that the global mining industry sustainable electricity mix for major cryptocurrencies is now 58.4 %, down 0.1 % from last quarter. Perhaps more importantly, it is a significant growth from the estimated 36.8% renewables in the first quarter of 2021.

These presented data show that a mix of electricity with sustainable energy of 65.6 % is used, figures obtained from the BMC study.

The cryptocurrency has been the victim of criticism repeatedly due to the high electricity consumption it demands, and its large carbon footprint.
