López Obrador invited Biden to Mexico

The Mexican president extended an invitation to his American counterpart to visit the nation in September

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador invited his US counterpart, Joe Biden, to visit Mexico at the end of September, after the “profitable” meeting held this week with senior US government officials.

López Obrador, who on Monday spoke with Biden’s vice president, Kamala Harris, and a day later personally received the White House National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, stressed at a press conference that there is a “very good” relationship with the authorities of the neighboring country.

The Mexican president confirmed that his meeting with Sullivan lasted two hours and allowed reaching agreements on migration and the economy. He also raised as a “possibility” a visit by Biden to Mexico that would take place “by the end of September”, after an upcoming high-level economic meeting between the two parties.

According to López Obrador, the United States authorities are in favor of reopening the common border, although he has acknowledged that this possibility “continues to be analyzed” at the dawn of the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic. “There is attention to normalize the commercial economic relationship on the border and this meeting will be held in the United States very soon.”
