Twitter already allows identification through security keys
The social network introduced this new functionality for all its users, which adds a new level of protection
The social network Twitter already allows its users to identify themselves when entering their accounts with a new form of verification in two steps, using only physical security keys, both in its web version and in its mobile app.
The network, since December last year, allowed the use of physical security keys as one of the forms for two-factor identification, so that it functioned as an additional layer of security in addition to passwords. It was also possible to configure several different keys.
Now, as announced in their official support account, the physical security mechanism can be used as the only verification method to access accounts on the web and on mobile devices, in cases where two-step authentication is activated.
Twitter recommended that its users enable two-step verification on their accounts to improve security, and has specifically advocated the use of physical security keys as the “most effective” method.
These physical devices have security mechanisms to ensure that, even if they are used to access a phishing site, the shared information cannot be used to enter the user’s account.
