Tesla to build battery factory in Shanghai

Tesla's new storage battery factory in Shanghai will have a production capacity of about 10,000 units per year

The American company Tesla, led by Elon Musk, will build a new factory for energy storage batteries in Shanghai. It is estimated that the works begin in the third quarter of the year.

Tesla has a first plant of megapacks, as it is called “the energy storage batteries used to stabilize electrical networks and avoid supply outages”, located in California.

At the California plant, Tesla produces about 10,000 batteries a year, for an average storage of 40 GWh. It is estimated that each unit “can store more than 3 megawatt hours (MWh) of energy, enough to supply an average of 3,600 homes for one hour.”

According to reports from the Xinhua newspaper, with the new factory “the value of the industrial pole in that area exceeds 100,000 million yuan (14,543 million dollars, 13,341 million euros).”
