Samsung develops system to measure blood pressure

Through a specialized system for estimating bioinformation, the company will apply the tool through folding mobiles

Samsung developed a system to measure people’s blood pressure using mobile phones with folding screens and cover sensors.

The South Korean company submitted to the International Patent Office (WIPO) a corresponding system for a “bioinformation estimation method” using a foldable electronic device.

Likewise, the technology works on a device with a tablet-like folding screen design, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold series, but also on clamshell-type folding phones, such as the Galaxy Z Flip.

Sensors at the bottom

For its operation, it has two image sensors located at the bottom of the flexible screen, with which it allows obtaining biometric information from the user by placing their index finger and closing the screen with the finger in the middle.

The system converts the pixel information to a wave amplitude signal and is capable of sensing the pressure of the finger on the screen. The data is shown to the user through the external screen when the device is closed, indicating if it is necessary to move the finger.
