Russian website BTC-e faces US embargo

The United States government seized the website of the Russian Cryptocurrency exchange BTC-e after the digital commerce platform has been accused of crimes associated with money laundering

Alex Vinnik, a former operator and owner of multiple accounts of the Russian crypto exchange BTC-e, was arrested last week, according to the investigations, for operating an international scheme where he allegedly received more than $ 4 million.

Given this scenario, the future of BTC-e is even more uncertain and it is presumed that due to the recent seizures of the domain the site is permanently closed.

So far, users claim that they can read and send messages as well as check their account balances. However, this service does not permit access in all countries and where users can login the features and services gradually return online, according to the roadmap established by the site plan at bitcointalk.org.

According to the site, “users will have the opportunity to check the integrity of the digital balance in the user’s account and users may make changes to the security of the account. In the case of support, the chat service is available. For this purpose, the service will be launched in the old domain (btc-e.nz). You can log in and check your balance before counting.”

These measures have been taken due to the seizure of the domain by the FBI that caused the loss of assets of some users. Before this, the website had promised to reimburse customers through negotiable tokens (BTC).

The funds associated with the many accounts on the site are still in limbo. The whole process has been confusing and strange and has certainly damaged Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general.
