President of Belarus requested to mine cryptocurrencies

Alexander Lukashenko asked the authorities to use the available infrastructures to carry out this activity

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko recently asked local authorities to start devising a plan for cryptocurrency mining in his country.

During the inauguration of a Petrikovsky mining and processing plant, the president urged workers to migrate to mining digital assets, rather than looking for opportunities in the agricultural sector.

WWe must understand … We are not expected to build something based on electricity … After all, start mining crypto or whatever it is called. There is enough electricity in the country for that,” said the Belarusian leader.

The Petrikovsky plant is officially the largest investment project of state-owned Belaruskali, one of the world’s largest producers of potash fertilizers, reportedly accounting for 20 % of the world’s supply as of 2019.
