Pinterest, the visual platform where users can collect and share images of various themes, announced new safety measures for teens.
Users under 16 years of age will be able to set up private profiles and interact only with the people they choose. It will be a unique profile that will allow them to continue enjoying the images and videos of their choice in areas such as cooking, decoration, crafts, personal growth, among others.
The private profile selection is available by default. “Once they turn 16 or older, they can choose to use a public or private profile,” according to iProup.
If young people prefer to remain in the private profile, their account will not be visible to the rest of the users “and they must use a unique link to share content with other profiles.”
The measure will also allow greater control over followers on Pinterest. In this sense, the social network “will eliminate the followers in these profiles with the aim that the minor users themselves decide who can follow them.”
In a broader sense; that is, for the rest of the users on Pinterest, the measure will allow them to review who follows them “and choose those they wish to eliminate.”
Another security measure for teenagers applies to the messaging option on the platform. Establishes the need to request authorization to receive messages, as well as to participate in group boards. “Specifically, as specified by the platform, adolescents under the age of 16 will only send and receive messages from mutual followers that have been accepted through the unique profile link.”
Parents or guardians are not left out of the new rules, since they can configure an access code that adolescents must enter “to change account settings.”
