Panama will receive a loan from the World Bank

The international institution approved a loan of 300 million dollars, which will help the nation to recover from the impact of the coronavirus

The World Bank approved the granting of a 300 million dollar loan to Panama to support the government’s response to the health crisis and economic recovery.

The game will support the country’s initiatives to invest in better health and education services, institutions of transparency and the proper management of public finances, as well as in a “robust” recovery after the pandemic.

This is the first of two development policy loans launched in the wake of the health crisis, to help meet the government’s budget needs in the wake of the spread of the virus outbreak.

“The health and well-being of the population are our priority. We are pleased with the effort made to obtain the necessary resources to support the year budget severely affected by the sharp drop in income and economic activity as a result of the pandemic“, indicated the Panamanian Minister of Economy and Finance, Héctor Alexander.

For his part, the representative of the World Bank in Panama, Abel Caamaño, highlighted that the operation “supports the efforts of the Panamanian people on their way to recover from the social and economic impact of the pandemic while advancing structural improvements on competitiveness and inclusion.”

“We will continue our joint work to combat poverty and reduce inequity for the benefit of the population that requires adequate access to health services, education for all and decent jobs”, added Caamaño.
