Panama alerts on false banks scams to citizens

Authorities of the Superintendency of Banks alerted the residents about a new form of fraud through messages that false financial send by WhatsApp or email

Panamanian citizens could be victims of robberies and financial frauds through a new type of attack focused on sending false bank messages to customers through email or WhatsApp messages.

This was announced on Wednesday by the Superintendency of Insurance and Reinsurance of Panama through a statement to alert the population.

It is important that the residents know that the process is done electronically. The fake financial entities make the contact, even sending material with the logo of the Superintendence to catch the victims.

Subsequently, for the scammers to make the disbursement, the client must make a deposit of 10% of the amount requested through the mail, a web page or WhatAspp message.

In statements about the case of José Joaquín Riesen, Superintendent of this agency, said they discovered what happened by consumers calls. He added that the complaint will be filed with the Public Prosecutor’s Office in order to proceed with the corresponding investigations.
