Oxford seeks to incorporate blockchain into the education system

Professors from the Faculty of Philosophy have indicated that blockchain and smart contracts could democratize the traditional system

Since last April a group of academics from Oxford University has worked on a project to create the first higher education institution based on blockchain technology with the aim of democratizing the traditional education system.

Professors from the Faculty of Philosophy have indicated that blockchain is a strong promise for what they want to achieve: an educational community without borders. The project has been called Woolf, and will adopt the traditional course of Oxbridge as well as the collegial structure.

The difference is that it will focus on individual modules guided by tutorials available to students online and offline. In this way they would eliminate obstacles to the access of the student community.

With blockchain technology, Oxford University pursues a specific objective, which is to analyze and respond to current problems of universities in general, such as high enrollment cost, bureaucratic and administrative paperwork, in addition to the reduction of academic positions and low wages.

The professors stress that the blockchain university would provide security and stability in the academic courses, allowing access to a complete training. The use of the Woolf token is foreseen for functions such as tuition custody, budget management and university government.
