OpenAI will have a team for the development of technologies that control AI

The company responsible for the GPT language model and the ChatGPT chatbot is assembling a new team of professionals to control AI

OpenAI is creating a new team of researchers dedicated to developing technologies that help control artificial intelligence (AI) systems that exceed human capabilities.

The company responsible for the GPT language model and the ChatGPT chatbot hopes to tackle the problem of AI control in the next four years, for which it is preparing a dedicated team.

Specifically, and as reported on his official blog, this new team will be led by the OpenAI co-founder and chief scientist, Ilya Sutskever, and the head of Alignment, Jan Leike, and will use 20 % of the computation obtained.

From the company, they understand that “scientists and technical innovations are needed to direct and control artificial intelligence systems much more intelligent than us.” The CEO himself, Sam Altman, has warned of the risks that AI poses to the individual and society and has advocated for regulation of large language models.

However, Altman’s allegations have been clouded by information obtained by Time about his alleged pressure to ensure that the regulation of AI that the European Union is preparing is less strict than what was being proposed.
