Number of cryptocurrency ATMs in Colombia increases

The Latin nation became the second country in the region with the highest number of cash dispensers, above El Salvador

Colombia recently became the second country in Latin America with the largest implementation of bitcoin ATMs.

Since 2017, the “coffee-growing” country has been experiencing a considerable increase in the use of cryptocurrencies and the provision of mechanisms to facilitate their adoption by citizens.

Currently, in Colombia there are around 50 cryptoactive ATMs, which has led the nation to position itself above El Salvador, which recently began to accept Bitcoin as legal tender.

According to Coin ATM Radar, there are more than 28,000 machines in 72 countries around the world. These ATMs have 627 operators and 43 manufacturers. Although Bitcoin is one of the currencies most used today in transactions, today it can be traded with 11 different cryptocurrencies.

The Colombian capital, Bogotá, is the city with the largest number of ATMs, with a total of 29, followed by Medellín with 6, Bucaramanga and Pereira with 3, San Andrés and Cali with 2. Armenia, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Cúcuta and la Hormiga have at least one ATM.
