Movistar launches the new Smart WiFi 6 Amplifier

The device has a speed of up to 4 Gbps that will arrive commercially initially in Spain

Telefónica has started the deployment of the Smart WiFi 6 Amplifier, a new device that incorporates the latest generation in WiFi 6 technology and represents a further step within the Movistar Home with intelligent connectivity, and which will arrive commercially in Spain in the last quarter of the year.

The new member of the Smart WiFi Movistar family uses the latest WiFi technology available on the market and a configuration of twelve internal antennas to offer connection speeds of up to 4 Gbps (five times higher than WiFi 5) and an improved coverage range that allows it to be expanded by more than 30%. In addition, it allows for more efficient management of connected devices, which implies an increase in simultaneous data traffic of the equipment up to four times higher, as the company reports in a statement.

The Smart WiFi 6 Amplifier can function both as an access point, to create a WiFi 6 network throughout the house to replace the WiFi signal of the existing router, or as a repeater, to extend the user’s WiFi connectivity to new areas of the home.

Also, the device, by default, creates a single WiFi network using the same name for all home networks, both 2.4GHz and WiFi + 5GHz. On the other hand, connected as an access point to the Movistar Smart WiFi Router (HGU), it automatically replicates its configuration, keeping the name and password of our previous WiFi, thus facilitating the connection of all client devices.

This amplifier works with the Smart WiFi mobile application, which facilitates the management of devices connected to WiFi, allowing, among other things, to pause or resume their connectivity or to optimize the network based on user preferences.
