Microsoft issues alert about scams under identity theft

The technology company assured that there are groups of people who are posing as technicians of the company, in order to charge services to customers

Tech company Microsoft has raised an alarm over an increase in tech support scams, in which the authors pose as company techs and ask victims to pay for bogus services.

The company created by Bill Gates reported an increase in scams in which the perpetrators call and send messages to victims posing as company technicians and using “intimidating tactics and social engineering to deceive people and make them pay for  unnecessary service support.”

In this sense, Microsoft assured that “it does not proactively send email messages or make phone calls” if users have not previously requested technical support.

“Technical support only contacts someone, in case they have previously requested it,” the technology company said in a statement.

For this reason, Microsoft recommends that users who receive a notification with a phone do not call the number, since the messages sent by the company never include phone numbers.
