McDonald’s and Starbucks suspend operations in Russia

Large American chains, such as McDonald's and Starbucks, announced that they will temporarily close all their stores in the region

The large American chains McDonald’s, Starbucks or Yum! Brands, owner of KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants, announced the temporary closure and suspension of activity of its stores in Russia in reaction to the invasion of Ukraine.

The multinational of the “golden arches” confirmed the temporary closure of its 850 restaurants in Russia, as well as the interruption of its activities in the country, where it has some 62,000 employees.

“McDonald’s has decided to temporarily close all our restaurants in Russia and pause all operations in the market,” announced the company, which has pledged to maintain the salary for all McDonald’s employees in Russia.

Likewise, the Starbucks coffee chain indicated that its partner in Russia agreed to immediately pause operations in its 130 establishments in the country, adding that the chain’s license holder will provide support to the almost 2,000 partners in Russia that depend on the business.
