Italy temporarily banned the use of ChatGPT
Data protection authorities in Italy temporarily banned the use of AI-powered technology ChatGPT for unlawful collection of user data
The illegal collection of user data in Italy by the ChatGPT bot, powered by Artificial Intelligence, led to its temporary blocking by the authorities of the Guarantor office for the Protection of Personal Data.
The GPDP reported on Friday, March 31, the decision to block this technology, in addition to the opening of an investigation due to data privacy violations that occurred on the 20th of the same month.
According to the statement regarding the decision of the GPDP, the immediate blocking of data processing on Italian territory by the American company OpenAI was proceeded.
It is important to remember the illegality of the collection of user data through the use of underlying algorithms to ensure the operation of the platform.
On the other hand, the Italian authorities mentioned that although ChatGPT is authorized for users from 13 years of age, there are no ways to verify this data. Which could lead to minors receiving inappropriate responses from the system.
Additionally, the GPDP stressed that OpenAI has not presented the legal bases of the platform in the country, raising doubts regarding data collection, security and privacy.
