Instagram launches QR function to locate users

The social network now has the ability to search for other accounts without the need to write their names

Instagram introduced the new function of QR codes that can be generated and shared by users themselves and that allows them to directly access profiles more quickly through the camera and third-party scanner applications.

The application’s QR codes are designed to avoid having to enter the names in the app when searching the profile of a user of the social network owned by Facebook. The global launch of this feature now comes after it was previously only in testing stage in Japan.

The new feature is specifically geared towards companies using Instagram, to allow their customers to find their profiles quickly without having to search for them.

Users can generate a QR code from the settings menu of their Instagram profiles, from where it is possible to save the image on their device or share it with other people. These codes can be scanned from third party applications.

The introduction of this function will be accompanied by the withdrawal of the similar function Nametags, which also generated scannable codes but was only possible to scan from the internal camera of Instagram.
